You’re all set, tickets booked, and ready to head off on your journey. You’ve made all your plans, decided what and who you’re going to see and how you’re going to get places. Then the dreaded announcement comes. A rail strike is announced. When a rail strike is planned for the same day as your train travel, it can make travel a complete nightmare. Strike days tend to cause significant disruption to travel plans on both the day of travel and the days before and after.

So what can you do about it? Preparation and knowledge are essential to completing your journey in the most efficient stress-free way possible.

Find out when and where strikes will happen

Make sure you are aware of which rail networks are taking action and whether your service will be affected. You can do this by checking your train ticket to find out who your rail provider is and then by going on their website for updates.

Keep an eye on rail websites

Many strikes that are proposed don’t actually take place. If an agreement is reached, then they will be called off and services will resume as normal. This can occur at extremely short notice, maybe the day before your trip or even hours before, so check regularly for updates.

Check whether you can get a refund

If your rail provider is taking strike action, then you should be entitled to a refund no matter what type of ticket you have booked. Even if you have booked an advance ticket, which is usually non-refundable, in these exceptional circumstances you will get a refund if you follow the instructions given by your rail provider.

Arrange alternative transport

If it looks like the strike will be going ahead and your travel will be affected, you should find a different way of getting there. Booking a taxi service through a reputable taxi company in advance can guarantee that you will get to your intended destination. A taxi service will be able to work around your schedule  - you just need to let them know when and where you need collecting and your taxi driver will be there when you need them.

A taxi driver can also provide a safe and stress-free travel experience. Taxi companies hire experienced professionals so you will be in good hands for your journey. All you have to do is sit back and relax while your taxi driver takes you door to door.

I read the Lewis Taxis blog on how to survive a rail strike and thought the tips about planning ahead, checking strike dates, and even booking alternative transport if trains aren’t running were really practical for anyone who still has to travel when services are disrupted. It reminded me of a week I was so buried in study that I had US Online Class Taker for online finance class help late at night just to stay on top of everything while also sorting my own plans. That mix of planning and support reminded me that being prepared and asking for help can really make hard days easier.
